Tomorrow evening at 6:30PM

Folks,
The studio is open for use tomorrow evening so we are going to sketch at the Paper Cup Studio tomorrow evening.  Bring an item for a still life and we'll sketch in the gallery.  If it is nice outside, you can sketch outside for a nocturnal, but for the most part it will be dark so we will set up a still life and sketch that.  Please bring $5 so we can reimburse LuAnn for use of the space.  Why the $5?  Heat and electric aren’t free, it’s the least we can do for LuAnn letting us use the space.

I have the key so if I should happen to run late, just wait for me to get there to open the door.

There is coffee and tea, bring a snack.

This Wednesday at 6:30PM

Because of the potential for inclement weather on Wednesday, I am scheduling an indoor sketch at Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Company in Patchogue for this coming Wednesday. Good coffee and tea and if it isn't raining we can sketch on Main Street.

Roast is a few doors west of the Patchogue Theater.

Wednesday 9/23 at 6PM

Folks,
Because it gets dark quickly, we will be sketching on Main Street in Sayville, where the shops are lit up after dark.  I put Starbucks as the meeting point but please feel free to sketch anything that catches your eye.  We are not limiting the sketch area to Starbucks.  There are a few shops, Four Star always has some fun seasonal items out in front of their store, etc.  At 7PM,  you are invited to come back to in front of Starbucks so we can share what we sketched.
It's been getting chilly in the evenings so dress appropriately.

The Starbucks in Sayville is 59 Main Street.

Sketch Night tonight in Bayport - 6PM

This park does not appear to have a name, we went there in the Spring….it’s in Bayport and here are the directions to it from Montauk Highway and Snedecor Ave in Bayport….William Street is a dead end at the bay.  There is a Playground and a place to park and for you Plein Air folks, this is a great spot for sunsets…

We are starting at 6PM tonight because the sun sets early.

There are TWO spots we could be sketching so if we are not on the spot on the bay, turn around and to the right, on the channel, tucked behind houses is a marina, we could be back there.  Either way, on the bay would be a sunset view and on the channel are boats, etc.

You can use this address for directions

REMINDER, SKETCH OUTINGS ARE FREE
The Maritime Museum has been a great painting spot for us over the years.  The Museum is closed but there is a lot of great sketching subjects, plus for those who want to exercise their plein air skills, it's also a good sunset spot.  There's also the golf course and surrounding grounds that are very nice.  It should be a nice warm evening this week to sketch by the water and hopefully it will be an awesome sunset.
Folks, the Patchogue Sketch Club is a free group.  I paid out of my own pocket to use Meetup, but all outings are free unless the venue we go to requests admission.
Also, please visit our Facebook Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/patchsketch/

Sketch Night On Fire Island

We are going to park at the field closest to the Lighthouse, Field 5, I think, anyway,  go to the very end of the parking lot closest to the light house and we'll all be scattered around there.

There is a path you can follow, some folks sketched on the walkway last time we were there.

Wednesday August 19th at 6:30PM

On Wednesday the 19th we will be sketching (or plein air painting) at Smith Point, which for those of you painting in Paint the Great South Bay, that’s in bounds and if you get your canvases stamped early you can paint that Wednesday evening. We will start at 6;30. You can park in the huge lot but I personally will be parking all the way to the west side of the parking lot. I know some of you mentioned a band and such, you can go there or paint down by the refuge side where I am going to be.

This Wednesday at 6:30PM

This week we are going to sketch at Avery Farm on South Country Road.   I don't have an exact address but it's between the Swan Deli and Robinson Blvd.   There are two driveways into the property, the driveway you want to use is the one closest to Robinson Blvd.  It's the second driveway on the left if you are traveling East Bound from Main Street on S Country Rd or it's the first driveway on the right after Robinson if you are coming West Bound (from Bellport) on S Country Rd.  It's a dirt driveway, the groomed one is the wrong driveway to use.

When you come in, SLOWLY drive to the back, you'll see the driveway extends back into the property, go all the way around bearing right toward the barn.  There will a long paddock to your left please park head in to the paddock so that everyone fits.  Please do not park along side the barn in case people want to sketch the barn.

This is a SKETCH AT YOUR OWN RISK site.  It's a farm and farms are not paved, watch your step...bring good shoes and bug proof clothes.

This Wednesday and this Thursday

This Wed at 6:30 PM we will be assembling at the end of Blue Point Avenue in Blue Point NY.  There is a dock area/ beach and people fishing that make good subjects.  Off to the side, there are a few homes that we have sketched before that have some nice gardens in the front.

Hope to see you there.

Also, This Thursday from 5-9 PM is Alive After Five in Patchogue.  We are going to set up a table and sketch Alive After Five.  If you love to sketch people, this is a great event to do that.  We are going to have a table set up in front of the court house so we welcome to come sketch and help us to inform and educate the public about our group.

July 23, August 6 and August 20 - Alive After Five in Patchogue

Folks,
We will be sketching again at Alive After Five in Patchogue 5-9PM.  We will be setting up a table down by the courthouse (150 W Main St, Patchogue, NY 11772) again and we'll display the wonderful banner that Jen's boss gave us to advertise our group.  Feel free to bring sketches or sketchbooks to display.  Each week we will be picking a different activity to do.  Anyone that can help me this year, please let me know.  I would really appreciate the assistance.  The dates are July 23, August 6 and August 20.

Please see http://www.aliveafterfive.com

Different this year: Those weeks with ALIVE AFTER FIVE we will be having TWO sketch nights, the regular Wednesday and the ALIVE AFTER FIVE Thursday.

Sketch the Great South Bay Music Festival

Folks,
This is an annual event in Patchogue this weekend from Friday July 17th to Sunday July 19th.  John and I were down there last night picking our vegetables and weeding our garden patch at the Patchogue Community Garden and while we were doing this we enjoyed the music of Rachel Platten, Christina Perri and Colbie Caillat.  It was awesome to be picking our vegetables and weeding to live music, LOL.  Who's better than us?
I am strongly urging the Patchogue Sketch Club to get out and sketch this event and enjoy the music. You can go to
THERE IS A FEE TO GET INTO THE VIEWING AREA
and see the lineup.  311 is up tonight, I might have to do down there for this one.
PLEASE POST YOUR SKETCHES ON OUR FACEBOOK GROUP PAGE.

This Wednesday, July 1, 6:30PM

Folks, Reminder, we are going to Fire Island Lighthouse tomorrow evening to sketch, Location: Robert Moses Field 5..go all the way to the back where the lighthouse walking path is, technically a boardwalk.   That's where you can park. There should not be a charge for parking after 4PM. I checked the weather and tomorrow evening is supposed to be dry.
What to Sketch:
Along the path there is the dunes and such, you may see an occasional deer.  You can go down to the beach and you can walk to the lighthouse, which is a bit of a hike, but worth it.  You don't have to walk all the way down to the lighthouse to sketch it, it can be seen from many vantage points.

PLEASE USE THE FACEBOOK GROUP

Folks,
To simplify running the sketch group, I will be doing ALL posts to the Facebook group from now on. I will no longer be posting outings on this blog.  If you would like to join us and sketch with us:

Please use this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/patchsketch

You can view the outings on Facebook, however, you need to be part of Facebook to access it.

If you want to join, just click the "Join Group" button on the group page and I will add you.

Why Facebook and not the blog anymore?  Facebook is more interactive.  You can ask questions, comments and post your own sketches to out Facebook group page.  You can't do that the same way on the blog and for that purpose this blog is obsolete and I am moving all communications over to the Facebook group.

Lastly, I need a laptop to post to the blog and I do not need laptop to post outings to Facebook.  Since I am not always near a laptop, but I aways have my phone with me, it makes more sense to do everything on Facebook.

Thanks for your consideration in this change.

Gina

This Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 8 PM

Tomorrow evening, we are going to sketch at Roast Coffee and Tea Company on Main Street in Patchogue…..it’s a few doors west of the theater.

Next week, I reserved the room at Michaels again.  I was thinking about doing a homemade sketchbook workshop for those who have requested it and for those who don’t want to make a sketchbook, come and sketch.

So let me know who’s interested in making a homemade sketchbook…..I will send you a list of what you need to bring plus you can pick up some items at Michaels, too.

Dick Blick carries needles, book binding thread, book cloth.  I can do simple books or I can show you how I did my mat board covered book.

This Wednesday canceled due to the storm cleanup

Folks,
I am going to cancel tomorrow evening because we'll still be recovering and digging out.  Since we sketch in the evenings, it's not worth risking a broken bone slipping on ice....who does that??   Oh wait, that would be me.

Anyway, SNOW is here.  Get your booties out and sketch.  Post your sketches on our FB Group Page.  Don't like the cold?  Your house has windows, right?  Sketch what you see out the window.  Post them on FB...this is a totally awesome storm to sketch.  Take adavantage of sketching the snow while it is still here.

I will be going out during the day to sketch so feel free to text me if you want to meet up and sketch or paint the snow.

This Wednesday 6:30 to 8:30 PM

This Wednesday we are going to be using the craft room at Michaels on Sunrise Hwy to sketch.  We’ll be doing a still life so bring some items to sketch.

The address is 499 Sunrise Hwy W in Patchogue….it’s right next door to the new Dick’s Sporting Goods.

It’s Free, I found out from Amy that they loan their room out for gatherings such as ours.

See you folks there!

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

This evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

Folks, we’ll be sketching at Panera, on Sunrise HWY near the Pier 1 in Bohema.

We are running out of indoor places to sketch so if you know of a place that would be a good idea, let me know.

Panera is big enough to handle us…I’ll probably be sitting by the fireplace again.
