The Patchogue Sketch Club was created for the purpose of getting people together to discover the value of sketching. Sketching itself is its own art form, sketching helps artists "see" better and enhances drawing skills. Sketching is also a fun way of recording the world around us much more intimately than a camera. The Patchogue Sketch Club Outings are open to everyone and there is no fee, unless the venue where we are sketching charges a fee for admission.

Sketch Thoughts from Gina
I did this in my sketchbook on Sunday evening.....I saw some interesting cloud/atmosphere formations/color so I decided to make the sky the focal point....I had been reading Plein Air magazine and there was an artist in there, Billy Solitario, who did cloud paintings and I was intrigued how he had an entire painting of open sky/clouds, with just a strip of land at the bottom. We have waterscapes like that around here that I originally thought was boring until I realized the sky could be the subject with the strip of land and water at the bottom to give it scale. Give it a try folks, the article is in the July 2013 issue of Plein Air.....I also found some other interesting stuff in there that I will be posting in a bit

This week we are going to sketch at Pine Neck park.....6:30 PM....
Here's the info for the park....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Neck
It's not a cultivated park so make sure you bring a chair....there's a beach, there's a marsh that the sun sets over.....there's folks crabbing/fishing, a boat ramp....etc so there are many subjects to sketch.....
Just bring the insect repellent or wear appropriate clothing in case there's no breeze and the critters are out.
The park is at the very END of Pine Neck.....go all the way down until you are almost on top of the guard rail at the end and you will see the gate on your right.....there's a Marina right before the entrance....

At the request of a few sketch club members, we a returning to the Maritime Museum this week. It's a great spot, just bring the bug spray and maybe something to anchor your stuff because last week we didn't need the bug spray but we were definitely buffeted by the wind.....
For those of you who didn't post your Independence Day Sketches, don't forget to post them on our Facebook page.

For this week
Folks, since this week is a holiday week and I am sure many of you have plans, I am going to issue an Independence Day Sketch Challenge instead of a gathering for this week.
During all the festivities, try to sketch anything that has to do with the freedom and independence that is the basis of this holiday. Please try to post at least one sketch on our FB page but I urge you to post as many as you would like to celebrate the holiday! This is a Independence Day week long challenge so you have plenty of time to sketch!
Here is the FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/patchsketch/ If you are not added to the group yet, just click to join and when I see you I will add you.
Happy 4th to all of you!!!
