International Fake Journal Month 2010

It seems that April is Fake Journal Month. There is an awesome and comical blog that is encouraging you to submit journal pages as a competition vying for one of two handmade journals. You can get to it by clicking on the blue French Bull dog with the pink background that I have added to our Blog or you can access it by clicking on this link: http://officialinternationalfakejournalblog.blogspot.com

You will see a Blue French Bull dog on a pink background on that site as well. Click on it, follow the directions and have fun. There's no reason why Sketchbooking and journaling can't be fun!!

And if you are a little shy, here's a great opportunity to let your hair down and make a go of it! I've added one of my sketchbook pages here from my visit in San Juan, PR to encourage you to sketch and post your pages!

Getting back to the Field again, almost

It's beginning to get warm out. My husband is moving me to a larger studio. Since my mobility is still limited, I will scheduling up some stuff closer to home. Stay tuned, outings will be scheduled shortly. Some possibly here at the house.

"Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman (still reading this one but it's good)
"Creative Time and Space" by Rice Freeman-Zachary
"Luncheon of the Boating Party" by Susan Vreeland

I started "Luncheon of the Boating Party" back in December, it was good but my ankle fried my brain and I couldn't read, which is the first time in my life that I couldn't seek refuge in a book. The book was about Renoir and the events surrounding his painting the Boating Party and how he met his wife. It was a wonderful book.

"Creative Time and Space" is how to create more time and space, to create art.

"Einstein's Dreams" was recommended in "Creative Time and Space." It's an easy read and it's all about what ifs in Time, it's pretty neat and a good read to juice up the creative mind.

If you go to the post on Monday, January 11, 2010, you see some great tips posted by Cathy Johnson, who is a very good sketch artist and I would recommend any of her books while working with sketching and watercolor. She has a new book out called "Watercolor Tricks and Techniques," on Sale at www.northlightshop.com for $19.79.

I would also recommend the February 2010 Watercolor Artist Magazine for snow tips so pick up this latest issue at your local news stand. Cathy Johnson also describes some of her tips in an article called a "Revolution of Snow" that has several artists tips on painting snow which are useful for sketching. Barnes and Noble and Borders usually carry Watercolor Artist Magazine or you can also order it at www.northlightshop.com. You can also sign up to have the North Light Bulletin mailed to you, they usually have some great book deals. I've noticed their prices are better than Borders or Barnes and Noble for the artist books they carry.

World Wide Sketch Crawl

The first World Wide Sketch Crawl for 2010 will be held on February 27. We are tentatively scheduling a sketch gathering that day. For more info on the World Wide Sketch Crawls, you can go to www.sketchcrawl.com. It's a great way to get a lot of folks out sketching worldwide.

Sketch Club Update

We hope you are all enjoying your holidays. The snow offered some great sketching opportunities and we hope you took advantage of the winter finery.

Gina has had an unfortunate fall and broke her ankle, and won't be available for any sketch outings until cleared by her doctor. Renee' may schedule some outings so watch this blog for more details.
