Sketch Night

Sketch night last week was a nice gathering. It got a little chilly but we had an enthusiastic group that was eager to get together and sketch. We gathered on Main Street in Patchogue and sketched the Church by the theater. The church had some interesting patterns in its structure that made it fun to put down on paper.

We are looking to post an evening this week, possible Thursday, stayed tuned.

The Sketchbook of the Month Club

The Art House COOP, which you can access by visiting www.arthousecoop.com, has a club where you can sign up and create monthly sketchbooks to submit to them. They are trying to create a permanent library of sketchbooks that can be accessed by anyone.

The monthly project is similar to the bigger project but without the stress of filling a larger book The monthly project will have a theme and you will have two months to fill up these smaller books that have less pages than their original format.

Here is an opportunity to get noticed with your sketches!

Wednesday Sketch Evening April 6 at 6:30 - BYOC

It's supposed to be nice tomorrow. Let's meet by the Patchogue Theater on Main Street at 6:30. We'll sketch until we lose the light.

Don't forget that it cools down quickly in the Spring so bring a jacket or a sweater.

BYOC is Bring Your Own Chair if you want to sit while you sketch.

Basic supplies are a pencil and sketch book, but if you want to use watercolors or watercolor pencils, don't forget to bring water and a container for your brushes.

Afterwards, we can assemble over coffee.

Weather looks nice this week!!

I am looking to assemble one evening this week, Wednesday around 6:30 is looking nice and warm so far.

Check back between now and Wednesday to see where.

If 6:30 isn't a good time, show up when you can, we aren't going to "sketch and run" so whatever time you can make it is fine.

International Fake Journal Month 2010

It seems that April is Fake Journal Month. There is an awesome and comical blog that is encouraging you to submit journal pages as a competition vying for one of two handmade journals. You can get to it by clicking on the blue French Bull dog with the pink background that I have added to our Blog or you can access it by clicking on this link: http://officialinternationalfakejournalblog.blogspot.com

You will see a Blue French Bull dog on a pink background on that site as well. Click on it, follow the directions and have fun. There's no reason why Sketchbooking and journaling can't be fun!!

Getting back to the Field again, almost

It's beginning to get warm out. My husband is moving me to a larger studio. Since my mobility is still limited, I will scheduling up some stuff closer to home. Stay tuned, outings will be scheduled shortly. Some possibly here at the house.

"Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman (still reading this one but it's good)
"Creative Time and Space" by Rice Freeman-Zachary
"Luncheon of the Boating Party" by Susan Vreeland

I started "Luncheon of the Boating Party" back in December, it was good but my ankle fried my brain and I couldn't read, which is the first time in my life that I couldn't seek refuge in a book. The book was about Renoir and the events surrounding his painting the Boating Party and how he met his wife. It was a wonderful book.

"Creative Time and Space" is how to create more time and space, to create art.

"Einstein's Dreams" was recommended in "Creative Time and Space." It's an easy read and it's all about what ifs in Time, it's pretty neat and a good read to juice up the creative mind.
